Achieving Common Ground: A Guide to Cooperative Problem Solving

Sandi DiMola, J.D., director of Chatham University’s Center for the Study of Conflict, was engaged in advocacy for over twenty-five years and has conducted conflict resolution training for multinational corporations. In her program, Ms. DiMola will address approaches to conflict, conflict styles, and research-based information on methods of cooperative problem solving. The program will conclude with small-group discussion of the applicability of the material for different types of professionals, including school and mental health counselors, business professionals, and other participants.

Breakout Session for MSCP: Infant Mental Health

Robert Gallen, Ph.D., MSCP faculty member and coordinator of the Infant Mental Health (IMH) Graduate Certificate program, will present an overview of the topic of infant mental health. IHM is an interdisciplinary field dedicated to promoting the social and emotional well-being of all infants and families within the context of secure and nurturing relationships. IMH services support the growth of healthy attachment relationships in early infancy, thereby reducing the risk of developmental psychopathology and enhancing enduring strengths. In addition, IMH services identify and provide services to high risk infants and their caregivers. Dr. Gallen’s presentation will include lecture and video clips, as well as information about the Graduate Certificate in IMH and the IMH concentration within the MSCP program.

Breakout Session for MBA/MALOT: Bill Flanagan Beyond 2008: Positioning Pittsburgh to Compete After Pittsburgh 250

Bill Flanagan is Executive Vice President – Corporate Relations of the Allegheny Conference on Community Development. In this role, he serves as Executive Director Pittsburgh 250, the celebration of the 250th anniversary of the naming of Pittsburgh. He also hosts “Our Region’s Business,” a program the Conference produces in partnership with Cox Television. This program airs on WPXI-TV, WJAC-TV, WTOV-TV, and the Pittsburgh Cable News Channel (PCNC). A graduate of Northwestern University (BS Speech), Bill has a master’s degree in journalism from the University of Missouri- Columbia. He is a native of Dover, Delaware.

You’ll have “lotsa laffs” during this interactive workshop while being coached on ways to bring more joy and lightheartedness into your life, and the lives of those around you, every day, at work, and at home. Nancy Leff, director of Leff-Laffs Communications, is a Happiness Life Coach and speaker whose life journey is to spread more fun and joy to the planet. With a background in HR training and development, career coaching, and performing, Leff has done scores of presentations for businesses, hospitals, and organizations.
