Sandy (Heisler) Shapiro '64
Sandy Heisler had a lovely overnight visit with Judy Paulsen Webb (’63). She and Judy had been in touch through email and Christmas notes, but had not actually seen each other since they graduated from Chatham. Fortunately, they are exactly the same!
Sandy also got to visit Carol Dougherty VonSchenkhof (’64) before heading home. Carol and Sandy have been the best of friends all their lives, though geography prevents them from seeing each other as often as they would like. It was a treat.

Kammy McCleery '67
Kammy McCleery continues to love her work helping college students from 17 to 70 to develop effective, professional cover letters, résumés, and all the other employability skills they will need for the rest of their lives. Personally, she is delighted to announce that her son, Christopher Malloy, will be married on July 3rd to a wonderful young woman from Hawthorne, NJ. They met in Newport, RI where he's been stationed and she is a college student and Banquet Captain at Castle Hill Inn & Resort. Another wonderful thing happened last October at Chatham. Kammy joined her former roommate, Meg Sandridge, and the Class of 68 for their reunion and was adopted by them which was cause for tremendous celebration! Saturday afternoon, she conducted the Alumnae Choir for Larry Malfatti, our beloved 'Mr. M,' as part of the Memorial Concert. It was a blessing to reconnect with choir members who were there to honor and remember him. It is a fact that Kammy had a rotten senior year at Chatham and has carried the scars of that experience since graduation only returning when choir functions were involved. This reunion was different. It involved many conversations with the wise, wonderful, and welcoming President Barrazone, and staff members that, along with being adopted by the Class of 68 thanks to Sabra Burdick, led to finally making peace with Chatham and her college career. The cherry on top was Saturday night at the dinner when she met, and sang with, Harold Betters, the master jazz trombonist who headlined at the Encore in Shadyside for many years. While they were talking, she was humming with the music being played by the other members of the group. He asked if she knew 'Georgia' and told her they were going to sing it together. Second thrill of a lifetime in one weekend. They also sang Louis Armstrong's, 'What a Wonderful World.' Pres. Barrazone and others had gathered around and looked as though they were thoroughly enjoying themselves. It was an amazing night, and one that she will never forget! That's my news, and I'm sticking to it.

Ann Firestone Ungar '70
Ann Firestone Ungar’s play, “Who Is Killing The Great Actresses?”, was produced in Manhattan in December, 2009 at the Looking Glass Theatre. This short piece, a series of cautionary tales about life in the theater, was well received during its 4-performance run. She reports that she deeply enjoyed returning to this theater where her play “Lives of Cells,” a meditation on character as revealed through fragments of cellphone conversations, was presented in 2002. The interaction with the cast, director and crew was particularly gratifying. She hopes now to find a venue for her larger script, “Nude Producer Descending.”

Kelly McKown '02
Kelly has moved back from Lexington to Louisville after being laid off from her non-profit job in June of 2009. Since then she's found employment with the state community college system, working with a National Science Foundation grant-funded project pair community and technical colleges with auto manufacturers to create standardized curriculum for the auto workforce communitities. Yes, the girl who can't change her own oil is working with cars...albeit from the safety of her desk. She enjoys spending her free time going to concerts (Clay Aiken and New Kids on the Block take priority), and spending time with her Chatham sisters. She's also signed up for a 5K in the spring, determined to finish it or die trying!

Jen Novotny '03
Jen finished her Masters in Battlefield Archaeology at the University of Glasgow in 2008 and, being a glutton for punishment, decided to stay on for a Ph.D. 3 more years of rain and haggis! If any of her Chatham chums fancy a visit to Scotland, look her up!

Amy Loveridge '03
Amy Loveridge continues to multi-task. In December 2008, she became a full-time healthcare recruiter for the Department of Veterans Affairs nationwide, and spends most of the year on the road tracking down doctors. All of that time in hotels and airports pays off, giving her time to work on her fiction and poetry. In 2009, she had the honor of attending the Bread Loaf Writer’s Conference in Middlebury, VT. When she gets to stay home in Pittsburgh, Lawrenceville is her neighborhood of choice and she can usually be found roaming up and down Butler Street. She is also delighted to be preparing for the arrival of her first niece in June (Chatham Class of 2032!).

Eileen Kinch '04
Eileen Kinch, English major 2004 and Earlham M.A. in Writing and Divinity just published her first book: The ESR Story: 1985-2010. Below is a description of the story:
In his 25th anniversary history of the school, Wil Cooper described the launch of Earlham School of Religion as "A Quaker dream come true." In this 50th anniversary edition, Eileen Kinch offers a fresh, interpretive history of this dream's unfolding during its second quarter of a century. Eileen skillfully identifies persistent themes in the school's history, places them within the context of tensions among North American Friends, and describes their effects on the school's life and health. The result is an honest, yet joyful, narrative that captures the success of a seminary many thought could never survive.
