Endowment Giving

Gifts to the endowment represent funds that are held in perpetuity with the income from the funds being applied to specific purposes such as financial aid, recognition of academic achievement, faculty and curriculum development, and the maintenance and upkeep of the University's historic properties and the Arboretum.

Specific naming opportunities include:

Distinguished Faculty Chair - $1.5 million
A Faculty Chair honors a distinguished faculty member and provides support for academic programs.

Named Faculty Chair - $1.2 million
This Chair brings prestige and academic support to a senior faculty member.

Named Junior Faculty Fellow - $750,000
This Fellowship will be awarded to an outstanding Assistant Professor, providing release time for writing and research as well as prestige.

Named Scholarship - $125,000
A Named Scholarship will be awarded to a single student, who will be designated the Name of Donor Scholar. This scholarship may be restricted to support a student with particular qualities or who is pursuing a specified academic program.

Named Science Equipment Fund - $125,000
This fund will support the purchase and maintenance of science equipment. An individual equipment fund may be restricted to support a particular department within the Science Division.

Faculty Development Fund*
This Fund refreshes the faculty and provides important support by affording them the opportunity to attend academic meetings and conferences.

Scholarship Fund*
This Fund will support the general financial aid budget at Chatham.

Endowed Fund for Maintenance and/or Operations
This Fund could support the maintenance of Chatham’s physical facilities and spaces such as one or more of its historic buildings, the Mellon Hall swimming pool, or the Arboretum. It could also provide funds to offset the operating expenses of the University’s buildings such as the Athletic and Fitness Center or the Science Complex.

Endowed Fund for Curricular or Co-Curricular Activities
This Fund could support curricular innovation or campus activities.

* According to University gift crediting policies, endowment funds may be established in any amount. However, in order to name a fund, officially announce its creation and begin disbursements, the principal must reach $25,000 or more.
