Professional Development Volunteer Opportunities

Showcase the skills and wisdom that you have acquired since leaving Chatham and impart your knowledge to those following in your footsteps! You can volunteer for Alumni Career Day to talk with students in classes and network with students interested in your field. Or, volunteer to participate in various campus workshops on topics like resume writing, interviewing skills, how to dress for success, and more. And we are always looking for alumnae and graduate alumni who are willing to mentor, shadow, or provide an internship to students. For these activities, please contact Monica Ritter at 412-365-1280.

Chatham Law Forum and Medical and Healthcare Advisory Committee
Alumni in legal, medical and healthcare careers have been invited to join the Chatham Law Forum and the pool of volunteers for the Medical and Healthcare Careers Advisory Committee. MBA Program Mentors
The MBA program at Chatham is partnering with the office of alumnae and graduate alumni affairs to develop an on-line mentoring program for all of the students in the MBA program. We believe that such one-on-one relationships will provide Chatham MBA students a critical advantage over students of other programs. Because of the busy and varied schedules of both the students and the volunteer mentors, we are trying the on-line approach so that all participants can be involved in the project at times that suit them. In addition, by developing the program as an on-line program, we will have the flexibility of tapping volunteer mentors from any geographical location, and not just those in Pittsburgh. To participate in this program, we are looking for individuals who are:

1. A graduate of Chatham University (undergraduate or graduate; it is NOT necessary to have an MBA);
2. Have experience working at the professional level in business as a manager, administrator, officer, owner, or consultant
3. Are willing to commit to at least one year of mentoring and preferably two; and
4. Are able and willing to communicate through e-mail at least once every two weeks

The MBA program is a two year, full time program. We will pair mentors with each student regardless of how far through the program s/he is. Initially, volunteer mentors will be asked to commit to one year of mentoring. As the program continues, we would prefer mentors who can commit to two years so that they work with a student through the entire program. At the end of each year, both mentors and mentees will have an opportunity to evaluate the program so that we can improve upon it. Each mentor will be responsible for e-mailing her/his assigned student once every two weeks with a few questions designed to engage the student, such as “ What’s happening in your classes/internship, what materials have you been covering since we last talked, what steps have you taken in your job search, “ etc. The mentors will always have the option of communicating more frequently if their time permits.

We will be contacting all volunteers to let them know whether or not a mentee has been assigned to them. Because there will be only one mentor per student, if we do not have a student for each volunteer, we will keep the volunteer names in our records for possible assignment next year.
